In the heart of Mitooma District, nestled within the vibrant community of Kyeibaare, stands Kyeibaare Girls Secondary School—a beacon of hope and learning for countless young women aspiring to fulfill their academic dreams. For years, this school has been a bastion of education, nurturing talent, and shaping futures. However, like many educational institutions, it faced challenges in providing modern facilities to enhance the quality of education offered.
Recognizing the pivotal role education plays in transforming lives and communities, the K&V Barugahare Foundation embarked on a remarkable journey to uplift Kyeibaare Girls Secondary School through the establishment of a state-of-the-art science laboratory.
The genesis of this initiative traces back to a heartfelt proposal made by Patrick G. Barugahare during a celebratory event honoring his parents, Mr. Kosia and Mrs. Violet Barugahare, on their 59th wedding anniversary in January 2012. Moved by their unwavering dedication to education and community development, Patrick envisioned a scholarship fund to perpetuate their legacy.
In April 2012, the Barugahare family, gathered at their ancestral home in Rwenkanja, unanimously endorsed the establishment of a scholarship fund. However, the vision soon expanded beyond scholarships alone. It was agreed that a foundation would be established to support educational endeavors and charitable projects within the community. Thus, the K&V Barugahare Foundation was born—a testament to the Barugahare family’s enduring commitment to education and philanthropy.
One of the Foundation’s flagship projects became the building and equipping of a science laboratory at Kyeibaare Girls Secondary School. Recognizing the critical role of STEM education in shaping the future workforce and driving innovation, the Foundation saw this as a transformative investment.
Under the guidance of Foundation Patron, Mr. Patrick G. Barugahare, funding was secured from the Uganda Twezimbe Trust, generously provided by the African Development Foundation under Community Reinvestment Contributions (CRC). This financial support laid the foundation for the construction and equipping of a cutting-edge science laboratory, a vital addition to the school’s infrastructure.
With unwavering dedication and meticulous planning, the project came to fruition. The new science laboratory, a testament to collaboration and community spirit, was successfully completed, commissioned, and proudly named after the K&V Barugahare Foundation—a fitting tribute to the family’s vision and generosity.
The impact of this initiative extends far beyond the walls of the laboratory. It symbolizes a commitment to empowering young women with the tools and resources they need to excel in fields traditionally underrepresented by females. It reflects a belief in the transformative power of education to break barriers and unlock opportunities.
The K&V Barugahare Foundation’s Science Laboratory stands as a testament to what can be achieved when communities come together with a shared vision. It is a beacon of hope, lighting the path towards a brighter and more prosperous future for generations to come. As the legacy of Mr. Kosia and Mrs. Violet Barugahare continues to inspire, their names live on, etched in the fabric of education and empowerment in Mitooma District and beyond.
